Overview
Bringing derivatives trading to 78% of Australian wholesale users
Derivatives trading opened up a new asset class for Australian wholesale users for the first time. I led the content strategy for the full onboarding experience, making a high-stakes, heavily regulated product feel approachable and clear.

Background
Goal
Help newly approved Australian users understand their eligibility, complete a two-step verification process, and place their first derivatives trade. Users should feel informed and confident at every step, without needing to contact support.
Problem
OKX was acquiring a derivatives licence in Australia, opening access to futures, options, and perpetuals for wholesale users for the first time. But research showed 23% of approved users didn't know they could trade, and 50+ weekly support tickets asked the same question: "How do I place my first trade?" The product existed. The content bridge didn't.
Challenge
Derivatives are high-risk and heavily regulated. The content had to educate without overwhelming, meet strict legal requirements without losing plain language, and build trust in a product category most users had never touched. I was the sole content designer across product, legal, compliance, and engineering.

Approach
What I led
Led end-to-end content strategy for the full derivatives onboarding flow, from eligibility awareness through to first trade. Owned the content framework for a two-step verification experience: the knowledge test, document upload guidance, and all error and edge case states. Partnered with legal and compliance to co-author consent language that met Australian financial services requirements without losing plain English.
How we worked
Embedded across product, design, legal, and engineering throughout the project. Synthesised support data and research insights to ground every content decision in real user behaviour. Led structured review cycles with legal to reduce late-stage rewrites, and established a content framework that became the internal reference for future derivatives launches.

Before and After
Passing score
Before
The message buried the key outcome (you passed) in the body texta which made users pause or second-guess what just happened.
After
We moved the pass confirmation into the headline (Great job! You passed) so users immediately see the result and know what to do next. This small shift created clarity, built confidence, and made the flow feel more rewarding and intuitive.

Before and After
Uploading documentation
Before
The screen dropped users straight into legal criteria without context or clear next steps, which felt overwhelming.
After
We restructured the content into a simple, step-by-step guide with a clear action path. This made the process feel more doable and helped users move forward with confidence.
